Electric Line Clearance
It is important that you identify the proper clearances for electric lines around grain bins.
Overhead power lines should be at least 18 feet above the tops of newly erected grain bins.
These clearances were established in the National Electric Safety Code to allow for the
movement of large equipment near the area. The code also specifies distances that power lines
must be from the loading and non-loading sides of bins.
Before moving or building a grain bin, contact Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services to
help you determine a safe clearance envelope between the bin and our power lines.
We will be happy to help you make the area around your bin a safe zone for you and your family.
If you have any questions concerning clearance regulations, contact our office.
