Operation Round-Up®

HISTORY

In 2003, Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services (FMCS) began an Operation Round-Up® program. Currently, its over 4,000 participants collectively contribute to the program by rounding up their monthly electric bills to the next whole dollar amount. These contributions of a few pennies a month have supported Alzheimer’s research and community awareness. Our goal was to alert our members to the early signs of Alzheimer’s, new medications and methods to help control its progression, and to educate caregivers.

Many rural electric cooperatives across the nation use Operation Round- Up® to help improve the quality of life within their service territories. It is a program that demonstrates our concern for community, one of the seven basic Principles of Cooperation. Contributions to Operation Round-Up® are tax-deductible.

EXPANDING THE PROGRAM'S REACH

FMCS serves nearly 6,000 members in Freeborn and Mower County. The success of Operation Round-Up® presents FMCS with numerous opportunities to give back to our community through charitable donations. Because of growing needs within our service territory, the FMCS Board of Directors recently authorized a change to the allocation of Operation Round-Up® contributions. Beginning in 2010, 100% of monies collected will be donated to local charitable organizations and individual FMCS members facing personal financial hardships due to circumstances beyond their control.

RESULT

Allowing our very successful Operation Round-Up® program to fund these additional needs will serve more local members, helping to improve the quality of life in Freeborn and Mower Counties.

The fund will be administered by a five member Board of Trustees consisting of:

bullet Darrell Ingvaldson, Brownsdale
bullet Joe Brown, Austin
bullet Sandy Fortsner, Austin
bullet Marjory Hamersly, Glenville
bullet Joni Osmundson, Adams

Funds will be awarded by the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis.

Qualification guidelines and applications for charitable donations are available at our office at 2501 East Main Street, Albert Lea, MN.
