Energy Assistance

It is the responsibility of a Freeborn Mower Cooperative Services (FMCS) member to contact us if you are having difficulty paying your monthly electric bill. Accounts that are in arrears are subject to disconnection.

Assistance with energy bills is provided by the agencies listed below. You are encouraged to contact the agency servicing your area for more information.

COLD WEATHER RULE ( Regla Wather fría)

Para traducir esto en español, póngase en contacto con nuestra oficina.

Minnesota has a “cold weather rule” that regulates residential electric service disconnections between October 15 and April 15, if disconnection would affect the primary heat source.

It is important to understand that to be protected by the "cold weather rule", you must, as of October 15, be current in paying your bill or have entered into a payment arrangement.  You also must be current with payments under that arrangement.

You must complete the "Income Qualification" form provided by Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services.  Along with this form, you must provide documentation that your household income is less that 50 percent of the state median income.

If you do not meet the above conditions, you do not qualify for winter shut-off protection.  However, FMCS will work with you to set up an acceptable payment arrangement during cold weather months if you are unable to pay your bill on time.

Should you receive a disconnect notice for nonpayment dring the winter, you will be provided with more information at that time.  You may request that FMCS notify a third party if your electric service becomes subject to disconnection.

Please contact our office if you are behind on your payments.
